This years effort for track and field has played a much more minor note, with hopefuls like Tyson Gay turning out less than expected.  The athletes injured hamstring has set him and his team back substantially, and it was Jamaica who rose to the occassion.  Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell are now two of the fastest men in the world. Powell gave Jamaica the fastest time in the 100 mtr with 9.74 seconds, before it was broken by Bolt with 9.72.

The days of American dominance are now long gone in track in field; the days when Michael Johnson would leave other nations eating track dust.
